Ok, it's finally LIVE on iTunes: the third album from my second bedroom, "Accidents With Super Glue!!"...

You can click on the many "Buy Now" or "Buy You Parodies Songs Now" buttons on every page of this site.

I think I've already told you, in previous blog posts, all about the songs on this album, so I'll leave it up to you (which is you, not me, who is You) to click and have a listen to / buy the individual songs or whole album...

I'll be starting work on the 4th album VERY soon, so I'll keep you posted.

Keep doing the things I don't do and I'll be back to y'all shortly with further news!!

You.

FINISHED!!!!

Posted by You on Tuesday, May 18, 2010
Yes, folks, I've done it: the 3rd album is COMPLETE!! After my last update, I was inspired to write a parody of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" on the subject matter of one Carl Williams and his untimely demise in Barwon Prison. So, I did!! It's called "Barwon Prison Blues" and there's a video of it on the "Latest Songs" page of this very website...

That done, I was provided with the elusive final song for the album, which is titled "Accidents With Super Glue", after one of the songs on it (a parody of Huey Lewis & The News' "Happy To Be Stuck With You").

The album is already live on Amazon.com / .co.uk in the MP3 Downloads section. Some of the highlights of the album are "Projectile Spew" (from Icehouse's "Electric Blue"), Jailbait (AC/DC's "Jailbreak"), "(She's On) Facebook" (Roxette's "(She's Got) The Look") and "Hijacking A Jet Plane" (John Denver's "Leaving On A Jet Plane")...

So there!! It's done and it's out there for your listening pleasure.

In other breaking You Parodies news, the corporate / private party gigs are picking up, so keep that coming!!

Until next time, have fun, check out the Barwon Prison Blues video and the whole new album and I'll be back with more updates anon...

Momentum...

Well, hello again out there in cyberspace and beyond...

Update time for You (which, again, is me, not you... although you (not me, you) should know this by now. But I NEVER assume!)

You'll be happy to know that the 3rd album is progressing nicely; I'm currently recording the EIGHTH SONG!!!! Only 2 to go after that!! Should have it finished & online by sometime in early - mid June...

Aside from that, not a lot of exciting news. I did, however, audition for Red Faces yesterday (May 2), performing "Thunder Thighs", which is the first song on my first album, "Being Scottish... & Other Serious Conditions". So, I'll be letting you know if / when I'm on the air...

Had a VERY interesting conversation with a man who has been an accountant / lawyer in the music business for a LONG time. We were discussing the legalities and copyright issues pertaining to song parodies. His argument, as a person who knows the law very well, was that you DO need permission from the original artist and / or their publishers before trying to sell your song parodies. My argument was that, since a landmark court case in America in 2006 regarding a parody of Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman", was that you DON'T need permission.

The interesting thing is that there are articles that support BOTH arguments, though the majority are on my side, quoting that even "Weird Al" Yankovic DOESN'T need to gain permission, but always does so as a matter of courtesy.

The outcome?? With more evidence supporting my argument than not, I'll keep doing what I'm doing!!

Otherwise, I hope all's well in the worlds of my readers and I'll be back soonish with the FINAL update on my 3rd album AND with any news on the Red Faces front.

As always, stay well and don't do anything I'd do!!

You.

Ooh, I almost forgot... here's the link for that video I mentioned in my last blog post: http://youparodies.ning.com/video/bni-medley

Enjoy!!

So much progress...

Hello again! This is You (which, of course, is me, not you) with another update on the progress of the 3rd album... Having knocked off the instrumentally challenging "Emo Shuffle", I then breezed through "Hijacking A Jetplane" in about 3 hours and am now onto recording "Chicken Parma" (to the tune of "Instant Karma", by John Lennon).

"What does it all mean, Basil?", I hear you ask... Well, it means that, once Parma's finished, that's half the album done!!!

In addition to this, we are recording a video of the parody medley I performed for my BNI chapter a couple of weeks ago. As soon as that's done, I'll get it on here so you can have a look and listen...

Talk soon; in the meantime, don't do anything I'd do!!

Progress... SOMEtimes, it's a GOOD thing...

Hey, all you avid fans of You Parodies and silly songs in general!! I've just finished recording my most challenging parody to date - "Emo Shuffle"! For those of you who know the original song, Boz Scaggs' "Lido Shuffle", it contains a passage of about 64 consecutive keyboard arpeggios! With my rather limited skills on the keyboard, this was a challenge I was dreading. However, with the magic of multi-track recording and both hands, I managed to get it sorted...

That may not excite some people, but I'm very happy it's done and completes my third song for my next album... Only seven to go!!

Keep smiling!

Welcome to You Parodies!

Welcome to the new, updated, all singing, all dancing You Parodies website!! It's finally happening...

"So", I hear you ask, "What's happening with You (which is me, not you)??" Well, I am in the midst of recording my third album (for which I have no title as yet), which is unusual for You (which is me, not you). So far, two songs have been recorded for the album: the first is a tongue (firmly) in cheek poke at one well known gold-digging ex-model from the UK. Done to the tune of Tom Petty's "Refugee", it's simply called "Amputee". I hope Sir Paul gets to hear it one day!

The second song is yet another AC/DC parody. This time, I'm taking a look at the dangers of trusting a young girl's I.D. in "Jailbait", done to the tune of "Jailbreak". Again, a timely warning to all night-club going males out there...

As we speak (or, at least, as I write and you read), the recording of the third song has been begun. This one is an homage to that strange but somehow interesting sub-culture known as "emo's". If you're not sure what an Emo is, then here it is, in its simplest terms: teenagers who have no clue who they are, who dress in black t-shirts and skinny jeans, listen to bands like My Chemical Romance, who sing songs about being "odd" and wanting to end it all and sometimes, tragically, follow their singing heroes' advice... To the tune of Boz Scagg's "Lido Shuffle", this tribute to those poor, sensitive souls is called "Emo Shuffle".

Even as I write this, I'm getting ideas for the album title!

As for live performances, I'm still doing some corporate work with Mark Garbelotto, the Brian Tracy "Eat That Frog" man and, of course, I'm looking to spread my corporate parody web far and wide...

I have also just recently launched my own iPhone application, simply called
"You Parodies". It's free to download to your iPhone (or other phone that finds and accepts iPhone App's) and you can listen to / buy my existing two albums just like THAT!!

So, there you have it (that's you, not me, which is You). That's the state of play as we speak. Stay tuned for more silliness and You news in the weeks and months (and years, as long as certain theories about December 2012 prove incorrect) to come.

This is You (not you, but me) signing off. As a teaser, there may well be a parody about the whole Peter Garrett fiasco coming up in the near future, so stay tuned...
